Today's News

LONDON -- College applicants have been plagerizing their applications!

  • Hundreds of online entrance forms mentioned "burning a hole in pyjamas at age eight."
  • 370 Medical Course applications contained statements which began "a fascination for how the human body works".
  • 175 of them contained a story involving "an elderly or infirmed grandmother."

A study by the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service reviewed 50,000 personal statements and found that 5% of them were plagerized.

This hurts my head. I can understand why you might try to get away with plagerizing an essay or the answer to some lengthy question that you were just too lazy to research. But how sad is it that you cannot even take the time to write a brief statement about who you really are? Seriously, are you so ashamed of your life that you have to "steal" made up life-events?

MICHIGAN -- Dum Dum Dress

A high school girl has won top prize in an art contest for a dress made out of Dum Dum sucker wrappers. She got the idea after seeing clothing made from duct tape. The dress will go on to a competition in New York, before Spangler Candy Co. puts it in its museum.

Me no Dum Dum! You Dum Dum! Hi Dum Dum! Give me Gum Gum! Sorry, that's all I could think about. This giant Easter Island Statue from Night At the Museum.

WISCONSIN -- It's a Bomb Not a BONG!!

Man insists that item found in his bedroom is not a marijuana pipe. Instead, he insists that the item is actually a bomb!! He now faces 6 years in prison and a $10,000 fine!

This is my stupid criminal of the week. This is like telling the police that you actually swerved to hit the old lady crossing the street. Seriously! Hmmm... The cops are searching my apartment. Oh no! They just found a pipe bomb! Wouldn't you be like, "Yes sir officer, I hate to admit it, but I enjoy my 'Mary Jane'. I keep that little pipe around for just such an occasion!" I'm just thinking "possession of drug paraphanelia" or "building a frigging BOMB!". Seems obvious to me.

NORTH CAROLINA -- Beer Tossing Refrigerator!

College graduate, longing for his campus lifestyle, builds himself a refrigerator that will toss him a beer with the touch of a remote!

His Mom must be SOOO proud! Wouldn't this be great for those times when soemone really ticks you off? Just wait until the unsuspecting person walks in the line of fire and WHOP! "Sorry Charlie, forgot to tell you about the fridge! It doesn't like it when you BOO our team!"

Here's Why I'm Mad

There's only two reasons that you might have ended up on this site reading the words I have typed. Either you are a random net surfer who stumbled on her in the hopes that I could provide you with cheap entertainment. In which case, I must appologize because I've moved everything entertaining about my life to another site. OR you are one of my family members who has stopped by to randomly snoop on the comings and goings of my family in the hopes that you might collect some information that will help you to better kiss a certain individual's hind-parts.

In which case, you have come to the right place. In light of the most recent family drama, I've devoted this site solely to venting my frustrations on the parts of my family which make me wish I was adopted! So, here you will find all of my frustrations poured out onto an empty screen and you can print it off and pass it around for all I care.

I've concluded that while my recent posts have been fun and entertaining for me, they are far too cryptic for my family members to comprehend. Therefore, from now on I will just come right out and say whatever is on my mind.

I am a firm believer that family matters should be handled within the family. However, since my family seems utterly incapable of any form of legitimate human communication, this is very hard to do. There are those in my family who thoroughly need their butts chewed up one side and down the other, however, these individuals are always heavily guarded with an entorage of deciples who will go to bat for them in total ignorance of the facts. There are others in my family who cannot seem to step out of the 1990's and insist on dragging every piece of dirt possible into any arguement about the present.

These days I'm really not in the mood to argue with anyone about the past, present or future. The thought of having to explain myself over a telephone simply upsets me to no end and if I were able to make a face to face confrontation over these issues, it is highly possible that it may end in blows. I believe that a fist fight should always be fair, and currently I could not guarantee that. While I would have no quams about smashing a dining room chair over the heads of a few people in my family, my current state of knocked-upness may prevent them from adequately defending themselves. I cannot bear to have that on my conscience at this point. Therefore, I intend to vent via my blog. If you have stumbled upon this on purpose, please feel free to forward it to whomever you feel it is addressed to.

So here are the facts about why I'm currently in a state of non-communication with the majority of my family members:

Things that family shouldn't do...

  1. Family should not keep vital information (i.e. the health and wellfare of a fellow family member) from "specific" family members whom they do not feel are "worthy" of the information.
  2. Family should not take advantage of the generosity bestowed upon them by other family members.
  3. Family should not use lies or deception to manipulate other family members.
  4. Family should not "pick and choose" who they think is important enough to "check up on".
  5. Family should not speak poorly of other family members around people who's feelings might be hurt by what they have to say.
  6. Family should not hold the "mistakes" of family members over their heads for years to come.
  7. Family should not automatically assume that they will be forgiven for the way they treat other family members (especially when they make no effort to rectify the situation)
  8. Family should not assume that these things don't slowly eat at family members and make it really hard to forgive.
  9. Family should not ignor certain family members and then expect to still remain in good standing with those who love them.
  10. Family should not piss off the pregnant granddaughter who has no problem airing all the family's "issues" in the local newspaper!!

There, I feel better today. That should hold me off for a week or so.
I love my family dearly, but some of them are really on my bad side right now and it may take and act of congress to rectify the situation.

My Confession!!

Yes, this pregnant hippo has a serious confession! I have a horrible problem that seriously effects my ability to function normally. It's hard to admit that you have a problem like this, so I'm going out on a limb here by trusting you. It's a horrible addiction that mayseriously affect the way some people look at me, and I'm a little bit afraid that I may have to seek psychiatric assistance if I ever get brave enough to overcome this disorder. At this point, I'm honestly not sure that I'm ready to seek serious treatment for this problem, but I am finally ready to step up and admit that I do have a problem. Here I go.

I am terrible addicted to HOUSE!!!

Yes, that's right. The sarcasm of Hugh Laurie is my heroine. I simply cannot function without my weekly "fix" of snide remarks and medical mysteries. I know that I am not alone in this affliction. There are others out there just like me who have been suffering in silence. One major side effect has included homocidal thoughts towards the makers of American Idol since it has denied me my necessary dose of HOUSE for the past two weeks. Other side effects include staring in anticipation at my on-screen TV guide, counting down the minutes until I get my next fix, writing ranting blogs about the absense of HOUSE, and driving relatives insane complaining about my HOUSE withdrawl.

For the past two weeks I've been going through some serious withdrawl symptoms. I must admit that it is very difficult to detox from this horrific addiction. There were times when I seriously considered having myself committed to a little padded room, but the though of getting my next "fix" tonight has kept me going. I fear that there may be no cure for this addiction and I am emotionally traumatized by the thought of going through extended periods without HOUSE. I have terrorizing nightmares about what would happen if HOUSE were ever canceled. *shivers* Just typing that statement has caused me to go into an instant panick attack and I nearly had to dial 9-1-1 to prevent me from breaking out into a full blown fit of hyperventilation!

Thankfully, HOUSE is coming on in precisely 25 minutes, 15 seconds and I think I may be able to hold off that much longer. It's hard though. I'm continually breaking out into hot and cold flashes and foaming at the mouth. I know that I will be able to think of nothing else until I get my "fix". Just the thought of having my sarcasm quota fulfilled makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Unfortunately, I know that as soon as the episode is over with, I'll be staring at the television in horror and wishing that tomorrow was also Tuesday!

The Best (and Worst) of Daddy Dearest!

Yes, I have been blessed with the best Daddy-To-Be on the planet. Being the show-off that I am, I fully intend to prove it to you. Now I don't care if you're pregnant, trying to get pregnant, have already been pregnant, or never plan to get pregnant, if these aren't the sweetest things a guy can say, I don't know what else the guy could do to make you happy.

  • (on the phone) Can I get you anything on my way home?
  • It's cold outside, I'm going to go start your car while you finish getting ready.
  • Everything will be fine. You were born to do this!!
  • Thank you for carrying my baby!
You shouldn't feel bad about being tired, you're growing a baby. YOU are the most important part!!

All you men out there should definately take a lesson from the above mentioned quotes. While these things are not very successful at getting Daddy Dearest laid (was that too much?) they do earn him a daily quota of "brownie points" which he hopes will add up and maybe he can collect on them at a later date when I feel more up to it (yes, too much! Sorry!).

However, let us keep in mind that even Daddy Dearest in NOT perfect!! He has those moments when his mind has wondered just far enough from him that he mistakenly believes that the words coming out of his mouth cannot get him fatally bludgeoned to death with the nearest solid object.

(while I'm admiring a tiny white swimsuit)

You've got a little weight to lose before we start buying bikinis again.

Immediately after the words left his mouth, Daddy Dearest was struck hard along the side of the head with the metal bikini rack. While he was on the ground pleading and holding his aching head, our shopping cart mysteriously rolled back and forth over his body until he lay trembling and whimpering. Doctors say that he should recover from his injuries in time to see his daughter be born, but to prevent any long-term damage, they insist that his jaw will have to remain wired shut until the day of the birth. Unfortunately, my back was turned at the time of the incidence, and I am simply not able to tell investigators what exactly took place. The middle-aged employee who was nearby when the statement about losing weight was made, told investigators that she too did not see a thing. Maybe Daddy Dearest will be able to tell us more when he fully recovers.

Me and My Pointy Stick!!

When I was about nine, my Mom met my Dad and my life as a rancher's daughter began. Up until this point, I'd been pretty much a tom boy, so making the transition to ranch life wasn't all that hard for me. I loved animals. I loved the outdoors. And I absolutely adored my Dad. However, looking back on it, I realize that I wasn't the brightest crayon in the box. Let me explain.

Through most of my youth I was a scrawny 90-pound waif of a girl. Just a little twig that a stiff breeze could probably blow over. However, that didn't stop me from being fully convinced that I was the toughest thing out there. There was no doubt in my mind that I could do ANYTHING that the boys could do and I had no problem proving that to any boy who believed otherwise.

Now my Dad had never really been around girls. He'd raised two sons who had kids of their own by the time my Mom and me came around. Anyone who's lived on a ranch knows that the work has to get done, regardless of whether you're a girl or not.

My mother will be the first to tell you that when we moved to the ranch, she didn't have the slightest idea of what to expect. She's a hard worker and more than happy to pull her own weight, but with age comes enough wisdom to know that large animals are unpredictable, and some things just aren't worth getting hurt. My Mom was great at running the tractors and throwing the hay bails, but when it came to being around those beady-eyes critters, she'd just as soon prefer to be on the other side of the fence. That's where I came into play.

Me, I wasn't afraid of horses or cows or anything else that might be out there. I was fully convinced that if my Dad could stand out in the middle of that pen, then so could I. And I set out to prove I could.

Determined to prove that boys aren't all their cracked up to be, I followed my Dad around like a shadow. I asked him 15,000,000 questions that probably drove him utterly insane. I hung on his every word. I totally idolized him! The funny thing about being young is that, one, you think you are totally invincible, and two, you're fully convinced that those you love would never put you in harms way. So Dad ended up with a perfect little minion who would do anything he told her to do.

I learned to drive a tractor before I could reach the pedals. I'd spend all day on the back of a horse working cattle before I could even put my feet in the stirups. I did my best to throw hay bails that were heavier than I was. And I stood my ground against a pissed off cow as good as any man. This last one is what makes me believe that I may have hit my head a few too many times growing up.

You see, my Dad raises Texas longhorn cattle. Now while these animals are generally pretty mild tempered creatures, they do have a tendancy to get a bit irritable. Namely during calving season when they're protecting their calves. Anyone who's ever watched the PBR rodeo knows that a person probably shouldn't try to take on a 1500-pound animal that is obviously irate. Try telling that to a 90-pound girl who thinks she's made of steel!

My Dad would go out to tag the newborn calves. And as you can expect, their mother's weren't all too impressed with the idea that this man was grabbing their bawling babies and apparently inflicting severe torture on them. My dad would hand me a pitchfork and tell me, "Now you just stand between me and that huge pissed off cow and if she gets too close, you poke her with this here pointy stick!" Sure thing Dad, whatever you say! And there I'd stand with my pointy stick while that cow pawed and panted and tested just how sharp my stick was. Did it ever once cross my mind that she weighed almost 20 times as much as me and her horns were as long as my pitchfork? Heck no!! Cows can't hurt you! That's just silly!! Did it ever enter my thoughts that I was holding off a 1500 pound cow while my Dad was wrestling a 60 pound calf? Well, no. I didn't know how to tag a calf & give a shot. Besides, I've got the pointy stick and he doesn't!!

This was pretty common practice on the ranch for many years. I got to be pretty good with that pointy stick!

It wasn't until I was well into my teen years that I started to realize that my Dad didn't always have the best advice. We were working cows one day and there was this younger cow who'd gotten seperated from her buddies. She found herself in a mess of older cows who were sorta picking on her. By the time we got her worked up to the shutes, she was pretty upset over the whole ordeal. I penned her and two older cows into a small area that leads to the shutes. Unfortunately, I couldn't latch the gate because she was so worked up that I would be risking a broken arm if she happened to hit the gate at the precise moment. I yelled over the fence to the men that they really needed to get this young cow out because she was desperately trying to escape through me. In the mean time, I just stuck my pitchfork up to the gate and gave her a little poke everytime she thought she was going to come back through it. Of course, in a situation like this, nothing seems to go as planned and the two old cows quietly took the lead through the shutes leaving a panicked youngster alone in the pens. Between pokes, I'm yelling at the men to hurry their asses up because this bitch was determined she was going out the same way she came in. And frankly, the only thing that was stopping her was an unlatched gate and me with my pointy stick!! Here's where my Dad's wonderful words of wisdom come into play. "If she tries again, just don't poke her with the pitchfork, we're almost done!" Okay Dad, whatever you say! Cows can't hurt you!! I'll just show her my pointy stick and talk nice to her!! And that's what I tried to do. At that precise moment I learned several things:

  1. Cows CAN hurt you.

  2. Dad DOESN'T always know what's best.

  3. An unlatched gate is not nearly as effective at stopping a cow as that POINTY STICK is

  4. A cow can EASILY plow through an unlatched gate if she so desires

  5. A gate can bounce back and hit you FOUR times before it finally stops swinging.

  6. A teenage girl can bounce off the fence behind her FOUR times as the gate hits her.

  7. Metal cattle panels will leave FOUR sets of really cool grid-shaped bruises on your back.

  8. A cow can slam you into a cattle panel hard enough to create purple bruises in 3 MINUTES FLAT.

  9. A teenage girl can be slammed between a gate and a fence and NEVER drop her pitchfork

  10. A teenage girl can THROW a pitchfork across a pen when she finally stands back up PISSED OFF!

  11. After being slammed into a fence by a cow you are capable of stringing 15 swear words into a sentence and STILL have it make sense.

  12. A 300-pound man will MOVE out of the way of a 100-pound teenage girl if she is pissed off and cursing like a sailer about the incompetence of the MEN who were calling the shots.

  13. Nothing tastes better than biting into a STEAK from the cow that slammed you into a fence.

  14. AND most importantly, never be afraid to use that POINTY STICK!!!

Quote of the Day

This was actually said a long time ago, but it still pops up in our joking conversations from time to time. It's so funny I can't keep it all to myself.

*holding up some paper sacks brought home from work*
"Honey, I brought home these sacks, I thought we could use them as bags!"

--Daddy Dearest

Another Random Conversation!

About five minutes after a debate over the origins of the word "delicatessen"

  • Daddy: *grabs shoulders*
  • Me: You're going to ask me another stupid question that will give me a migraine aren't you?
  • Daddy: *giggling* Umm, no... *whispers* Where's the dictionary?
  • Me: *laughing* I'm not telling!!
  • Daddy: *pulling on the back of the chair and laughing* No more computer for YOU!
  • Me: *seriously* If you make this chair fall over with me in it I will so kick you in the BALLS!!
  • Daddy: *shocked* Don't say "balls" in front of her! *points to belly*
  • Me: *giggles* Well, don't say "dictionary" in front of her!!

Note: Yes, he found the dictionary. (And yes, he was right!) But the origins of the conversation were still ridiculous. What started it all? Daddy Dearest asked, "Why do delicatessen and delicate sound so much alike?" *hits head hard on desk* BANG!!!!

The Ever Growing Belly (a recap)

Okay, so I'm a bit of a hermit and I only leave my house when necessity (groceries, work, some random family event, etc.) insists that I make my presence known to the world, some of the people I care about have been denied the priviledge of my ever expanding belly. So here's a recap...

September 2006
About Week 7
Look at that flat tummy. Okay, so there's a bit of a pooch, but trust me, it's not a baby pooch... it's a cheeseburger pooch!
November 2006
About Week 14
Yep. There's a belly there! Just a little though. I had to put on something tight to show it off. Still could hide it under a couple layers of shirts though.
December 2006
About Week 20
No doubt there's a baby in there. Still, a heavy sweater will hide those extra cheeseburgers.
AND FINALLY!!
March 2007
There's no denying it now! Not even my heaviest sweater will cover this 40 inches of baby!

AND we still have 10 WEEKS TO GO!!!
Can I have the epideral NOW!!!

See If This Is Blunt Enough For You

Here's a little story I wrote! See if you can fill in the blanks.

_____ and _____ didn't know what time _____ was going in for surgery. _____ and _____ didn't get told when they could visit. _____ and _____ figured someone would call them to let them know that _____ was okay. When _____ was out of surgery, neither _____ or _____ called _____ or _____. _____ called the hospital and finally got through to the room where she talked to _____ and found out that _____ was okay. _____ then called her brother and daughter to tell him that _____ was okay because they were worried also.

_____ sent a ballon to _____ after she got home from the hospital. _____ got the balloon because she sent a thank you back to _____.

_____ sent a package to _____ with some movies in it. _____ never got a thank you or phone call back. _____ doesn't know if the package got lost in the mail or whether _____ is just not talking to her.

_____ has had two dental surgeries and been very sick but _____ has not called to see how she is doing. The electricity was out all day at _____ and _____'s house due to a snow storm but _____ didn't bother to call and see if _____ was okay. Instead, ______ called me and asked me if I was snowed in.

_____ complained at a party about how _____ and _____ had not called her while she was in the hospital to see if she was okay. Either _____ is lying about this or _____ didn't tell her that _____ DID call and _____ was fighting a snow storm in _____ and couldn't call. _____ and _____ saw two relatives while shopping that day and did not bother to tell them that _____ was in the hospital.

I refuse to answer any phone calls from _____ until _____ decides that _____ and _____ are important enough to call.

Our little girl is due on _____ and we are going to name her _____. If the _____ family does not pull their _____s out of the _____es before she gets her, they will be reading about it in the local _____.

_____ might be mad that I'm being this way, but frankly I think this is all a bunch of _____ and I am not going to expose my _____ to it. I have spent too many years listening to _____ complain about the things that my _____ does or does not do and I will not have my daughter listening to the same stuff.

While it really doesn't bother _____ whether or not _____ is talking to her or not, it does bother me. I will not have people in my life who cannot be sociable with _____ and _____. You'd think that _____ would have figured out a long time ago that _____ and I are a package deal.

If you've lost _____'s phone number, I know for a fact that it is listed in the phone book. If you can't take the time to look up _____'s phone number and find out how _____ and _____ are doing than I suggest that you misplace my phone number as well. I will not be returning letters or phone calls until I am satisfied that this issue is resolved! I don't like playing this game, but I'm not the one who started it.

My only regret right now is that _____ is caught in the middle of this and he is probably oblivious to the _____ that is being pulled by _____! I love you all very dearly, but I love _____ MORE!!
GROW THE _____ UP!!!
